Therapy for men and fathers in Charlotte, NC
Most men wait years before they make the call. Usually not because they think therapy is useless, but because nothing about how it is normally delivered appeals to them.
What men come in with
Rarely a diagnosis. Usually a situation. A marriage that has gone quiet. A temper that showed up in front of the kids. A promotion that made everything worse. Drinking that started as unwinding and turned into something with a shape.
Sometimes it is less specific than that. You are doing everything you are supposed to and it is not landing. You would not say you are depressed, but you would not say you are fine either.
All of that is worth bringing in. You do not need a crisis to justify the appointment.
What a session actually looks like
You choose
Sessions start sitting by the pond on wooded ground in east Charlotte. From there it is up to you: walk the trails, fish, hit a few golf balls, throw a ball around, or stay put. Talking is easier when you are not making eye contact across a coffee table.
We get specific
This is skills-focused work. What matters to you, what keeps pulling you away from it, and what you are going to do differently between now and next week.
You leave with something
Not homework for its own sake. Something concrete enough that you notice the difference, which is what makes men come back.
Weather is not a problem. If it is bad, we move to video or reschedule. Video sessions are available across North Carolina if getting somewhere is the obstacle.
Fathers
A lot of this practice is fathers. Men whose kid is about to start kindergarten, or leave for college, or stop speaking to them. Men who are trying to be a different kind of father than the one they had and are finding it harder than expected.
What we do is examine where the beliefs came from, what you actually want to pass on, and where the gap is between the two.
Cost
$195 per session, 50 to 60 minutes. The first consult call is free. Full fees and insurance details.
Do you take insurance?
Sessions are currently private pay. Credentialing with Blue Cross Blue Shield and Aetna is in progress. In the meantime you receive a monthly superbill you can submit to your insurer for out-of-network reimbursement.
What does a session cost?
$195 per session, 50 to 60 minutes. The initial consultation call is free.
Do we have to meet outdoors?
No. Outdoor sessions are what makes this practice different, but plenty of people meet by video instead, and some move between the two depending on the week.
Which days are outdoors and which are video?
In person Monday to Wednesday. Video is available any day of the week, and Thursday and Friday are video only.
What happens if it rains?
Sessions are not rescheduled for rain. There is a house on the property we can use, we can move to video, or we can stay out in it if that is what you would rather do. Your call.
What hours do you work?
Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.
Worth one conversation.
A free consultation call. No commitment. Just a conversation about whether this is a fit.
