Outdoor Therapy for Men · Charlotte, North Carolina
Therapy that doesn’t happen on a couch.
Counseling for men and fathers, outdoors. We start sitting by the pond, and where it goes from there is up to you. If sitting in an office across from a stranger is the reason you have not started, this is built for you.
Free consultation call to start.
No commitment, and no charge for it.
A different approach
Get your boots on the ground.
Most men do not avoid therapy because they think it is pointless. They avoid it because of the room. Fluorescent light, a box of tissues, someone watching you decide whether to cry.
Sessions here start sitting by the pond. After that you pick: walk the trails, fish, hit a few golf balls, throw a ball around, or stay where you are. Something about being outside and doing something makes it easier to say the thing you came to say. The work is the same, it is just easier to get to.
And it is not a gimmick. This is skills-focused, action-oriented counseling from a licensed clinician who spent years doing wilderness therapy and worked at a VA hospital before opening this practice.

Who this is for
Men who are good at handling things, right up until they aren’t.
You are managing, but it costs more than it used to.
Your temper is showing up somewhere it shouldn’t.
You want to be a different kind of father than the one you had.
Something ended: a marriage, a job, a version of your life.
Your wife or partner has been suggesting this for a while.
You have tried therapy before and it did not take.
How we work together
Individual counseling for men
One to one, outdoors or by video. For men working through stress, anxiety, anger, a hard season at work, or the sense that something is off and you cannot name it.
Therapy for fathers
Whether you are about to become a first-time dad or your kid is leaving for college. What kind of father you want to be, and what keeps getting in the way of being him.
Teletherapy across North Carolina
Same work, from wherever you are. For men whose schedules or geography make driving somewhere the reason they never start.

What outdoor therapy actually looks like.
Charlotte’s WCCB came out to see it for themselves. If you are wondering what you would actually be signing up for, this is the quickest way to find out.

Who you’d be working with
Josh Gorelick, MS, LCMHC
Charlotte native. Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Western Carolina. Before this practice I worked as a wilderness therapy instructor with adolescents, in a recovery and sober living program, and in a substance abuse program at a VA hospital.
I work with men because it is the work I am best at and because there is not enough of it. Every mental health resource I looked at when I started this practice was built for someone else.
Things we do
We start by the pond. Where it goes from there is up to you.
Sit by the pond
Every session starts here. Some never leave.
Walk the trails
Wooded ground, at whatever pace suits you.
Fish
Rods are here. Catching something is optional.
Golf
Chip a few. Open field, no tee time.
Throw a ball
Football, baseball, whatever is in the truck.

Before you reach out
The questions people actually ask.
Do you take insurance?
Sessions are currently private pay. Credentialing with Blue Cross Blue Shield and Aetna is in progress. In the meantime you receive a monthly superbill you can submit to your insurer for out-of-network reimbursement.
What does a session cost?
$195 per session, 50 to 60 minutes. The initial consultation call is free.
Do we have to meet outdoors?
No. Outdoor sessions are what makes this practice different, but plenty of people meet by video instead, and some move between the two depending on the week.
Which days are outdoors and which are video?
In person Monday to Wednesday. Video is available any day of the week, and Thursday and Friday are video only.
What happens if it rains?
Sessions are not rescheduled for rain. There is a house on the property we can use, we can move to video, or we can stay out in it if that is what you would rather do. Your call.
Take action on what matters.
A free consultation call. No commitment. Just a conversation about whether this is a fit.
