Take Action Counseling

FAQ

Questions people actually ask.

If yours isn't here, ask it on the consult call. There are no stupid ones.

Do you take insurance?

Sessions are currently private pay. Credentialing with Blue Cross Blue Shield and Aetna is in progress. In the meantime you receive a monthly superbill you can submit to your insurer for out-of-network reimbursement.

What does a session cost?

$195 per session, 50 to 60 minutes. The initial consultation call is free.

Do we have to meet outdoors?

No. Outdoor sessions are what makes this practice different, but plenty of people meet by video instead, and some move between the two depending on the week.

Which days are outdoors and which are video?

In person Monday to Wednesday. Video is available any day of the week, and Thursday and Friday are video only.

What happens if it rains?

Sessions are not rescheduled for rain. There is a house on the property we can use, we can move to video, or we can stay out in it if that is what you would rather do. Your call.

What hours do you work?

Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.

I've never done therapy before. What is the first session like?

Mostly a conversation about what brought you in and what you want to be different. No couch, no clipboard. We start by the pond, you pick what we do from there, and you leave with a sense of whether this is going to be useful.

What should I wear?

Whatever you would wear for a walk. Shoes you do not mind getting dirty.

Is an outdoor session still confidential?

Yes. The setting changes, the rules do not: the same confidentiality obligations apply outdoors as they would in an office. Josh will walk you through exactly how privacy works where sessions happen on the consult call.

Where in North Carolina can you work with me?

Outdoor sessions are in east Charlotte. Video sessions are available anywhere in North Carolina, because the license is state-wide.

How long does therapy usually take?

It depends what you came in for. Some people work through something specific in a couple of months. Others stay longer because it is useful. We talk about it openly rather than letting it drift.

Do you work with anyone under 18?

No. This practice works with adult men and fathers only. If you are looking for someone who sees a younger age group, the Psychology Today directory can be filtered by age.

What happens after I get in touch?

You can book a free consultation call, which runs 15 minutes, or request an appointment directly. Once Josh accepts an appointment request, two forms to sign and a short questionnaire arrive through the client portal, and those are completed before the first session.

Take action on what matters.

A free consultation call. No commitment. Just a conversation about whether this is a fit.
